Failed truck maintenance: serious cause for concern

Commercial vehicles travel thousands of miles just about every day. They cross through states and carry heavy, potentially toxic cargo. Because of how demanding this schedule can be and the significant wear-and-tear that happens over time, it is crucial that these vehicles be properly and regularly maintained.

Unfortunately, proper maintenance is something that takes a backseat when negligent truck owners are trying to increase profits. By ignoring problems or delaying maintenance, they hope to keep trucks on the road longer than may be safe. When these problems lead to an accident or injuries, it can be crucial for victims to understand that they have legal options to consider.

Trucking companies can and should be held accountable when these dangerous decisions and practices lead to crashes or injury-causing incidents. This can be especially true when there appears to be a history of negligent repairs and maintenance.

For instance, Swift Transportation has been named in another lawsuit citing negligent maintenance practices. This recent claim was filed by a truck driver who was permanently injured when a malfunctioning hand crank hit her hand. The lawsuit cites a failure by Swift and the shipper to inspect and properly maintain the vehicle.

This is at least the second trucker who has filed a claim against Swift citing mechanical problems and failed maintenance.

These mechanical problems don't just lead to accidents involving the operators of the trucks; they can also lead to injuries for others if the trucker is unable to keep control over a vehicle and causes an accident.

In the event that you have been injured in an accident with a commercial truck, it can be crucial that you speak with an attorney. With legal support, it can be possible to access crucial trucking documents like maintenance records in order to track down any evidence of negligence or recklessness.
