New airhorn introduced could prevent motorcycle accidents

Motorcyclists sharing the road with other vehicles in Florida face challenges that drivers of standard automobiles do not have to face. One of these challenges is visibility. Motorcycle unawareness is a big problem, especially since motorcycles are smaller and more difficult to see. However, one company has introduced a product that could help drivers notice motorcyclists in their vicinity.

A new air horn for motorcycles, called the Shockwave, has been introduced that could potentially help prevent motorcycle accidents. The air horn has an electronic controller and can blast noise at two levels. Tapping the button on the air horn will elicit a high-pitched noise. However, if the user presses down the button for over 0.15 seconds, a much louder noise will be elicited. The air horn can also be adjusted to elicit the louder noise as soon as the button for the air horn is pressed.

In addition, the air horn can be connected to the motorcycle's headlight wiring, so that when the button to the horn is pressed down for over 0.15 seconds, the motorcycles headlights will flash. This setting can allow for the lights to flash at either the high beam level or the low beam level.

According to Screaming Banshee, the company that created this particular air horn, the new device does not weigh as much as previous models and is also smaller than air horns it has produced in the past. Installing the Shockwave is meant to be relatively simple, with only three wires that need to be connected to certain places on the motorcycle.

Screaming Banshee recognizes that distracted driving can cause motorcycle accidents, and that in such accidents the motorcyclist usually comes out the worst. Moreover, it also recognizes that motorcycles are harder to see than standard automobiles. Having a means to make motorcycles more noticeable could prevent accidents and ultimately save lives.
