Yet another fatal motorcycle accident in the Sunshine State

There's nothing quite like the feeling of freedom you get riding a motorcycle in Florida's notoriously beautiful weather. Unfortunately, there's an inherent danger that goes along with that freedom. Many other drivers don't know how to react around motorcycles on the road, either because they misjudge the spacing or they are openly biased against riders. And unlike cars, which offer built-in protection from impacts, motorcyclists are completely vulnerable. That's why so many motorcycle accidents become fatal.

It happened again in early January. A man was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle on State Road 989 when a black Ford Focus made a left turn right in front of him. With no time to stop, he slammed in the car, flying off the bike and hitting the Ford's windshield before settling on the sidewalk. The rider was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol didn't indicate whether the driver of the Focus was distracted, inebriated or just didn't see the oncoming motorcycle.

Regardless, accidents like these leave behind a grieving family that's both emotionally and financially devastated. Not only are they burying a loved one, they are now burdened with medical bills, funeral costs and lost wages.

No family should have to go through this alone. If you have lost a loved on in a motorcycle accident, you might consider speaking with a personal injury attorney. He or she can fight to get you compensation, whether it's a battle with an uncooperative insurance company or a trial in court.
