Florida families may consider wrongful death claim after tragedy

No family wants to hear that their loved ones were involved in a car accident, especially when it causes fatalities. Unfortunately, two families received this devastating news after two University of Florida students were killed in a car wreck. Though no criminal charges have been filed as a result of the collision, the families may seek justice by working with an attorney to file a wrongful death claim in civil court.

Four vehicles were involved in the accident. It occurred when the victims' car was rear-ended by the at-fault driver while they were stopped at a stop sign. The collision caused the victims' car to hit the car in front of it, which then hit the next care in the line. Police believe alcohol to be the leading factor in the crash.

The victim driving was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger suffered severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital where she died several hours later. The driver believed to have been at fault was also hospitalized with serious injuries. Occupants of the other two vehicles were not harmed.

Though nothing can bring back the lives lost in this terrible accident, monetary compensation may be possible for the victims' families. The families have the right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver that caused the wreck. If the claim is successful, they could then receive monetary damages to help pay for funeral costs and other related expenses. Any Florida family facing a similar situation could consult an experienced personal injury attorney to discuss their options for litigation.
