Florida motorcycle accidents often lead to fatalities

Being cautious behind the wheel is sometimes not enough to protect Florida drivers from motor vehicle accidents. This is particularly true for motorcyclists. Motorcycle accidents are too often the cause of other motorists failing to pay attention to their surroundings. A recent accident led to the death of one motorcyclist and injured others involved.

The accident occurred when the driver of a pickup truck attempted to pass another truck in the passing zone of the highway. At the time, the truck driver was driving westbound while the motorcyclist was headed east. As the truck driver attempted to pass, he noticed the motorcyclist in the opposite lane. When he attempted to merge back into his original lane, he collided with the car beside him. This pushed his truck back into the path of the motorcycle, and the two vehicles impacted.

Though the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, this unfortunately did not save him. The force of the crash ejected him from his bike and caused fatal injuries. The truck was sent off the road where it came to rest in a nearby drainage ditch. The driver and his passenger were not wearing their seat belts, but only suffered minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured.

Besides the emotional burden the victim's family is facing, they are likely facing financial concerns as well. The family may consider consulting a personal injury attorney to file a claim against the truck driver. If the claim is successful, they could then receive monetary compensation to cover end-of-life expenses and related monetary damages. Florida residents who are victims of similar motorcycle accidents also have the right to retain an attorney to help file a claim.
