Motorcycle accidents in Florida often lead to fatalities

Whenever Florida drivers get behind the wheel, they must take not only their own safety into consideration, but the safety of their fellow motorists as well. When drivers fail to do so, serious collisions can occur. Motorcycle accidents can be particularly grievous, as they offer less protection than larger vehicles often do. A young biker was recently killed in one such accident.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling east when the crash occurred. A driver in a commercial truck was headed south. Reports indicate that the truck driver failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the victim and his bike.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. State troopers revealed that he had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. No injuries were reported by the truck driver. Charges are pending for the truck driver as police continue to investigate.

Because the young motorcyclist was killed in the crash, his family may consider filing a wrongful death claim in civil court against the truck driver and the trucker's employer. If their claim successfully proves the driver negligent, they may then receive monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other financial expenses related to the collision. Any families who have lost loved ones in motorcycle accidents could consult experienced Florida personal injury attorneys to find out more about filing claims. Attorneys could provide guidance and support to clients as well as assist in navigating legal proceedings.
