Stay safe this summer while living in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach is a beautiful place to live, and with so many tourists and attractions around, there is always someone new to meet and something fun to do. Despite the fun you can have, there are some dangers you need to watch out for.

For example, did you know that even a day at the beach can result in a car crash? You might not think about it, but there are many vehicles that do make their way down the beach, even in areas where personal vehicles aren't allowed. You could see ice cream vendors, beach patrol vehicles or others cruising the sands, so it's a good idea to always watch out and make sure your beach blanket isn't in the line of traffic to prevent a pedestrian accident.

Another thing you should watch out for is rip currents. It's up to lifeguards to warn people on the beach about any potential dangers that are present. Failing to do so could mean the beach and the local government is responsible for negligence in the case that someone gets hurt. For instance, if there are rip currents, a lifeguard should post a sign. The lifeguard and local government also needs to alert travelers and swimmers if there are dangerous animals in the water, like sharks or whales.

Interestingly, it's against the law to drink alcohol on Daytona Beach. If you are struck by someone in an area that does allow vehicles because he or she has been drinking, then you may be able to pursue compensation from that person.

The summer is a fun time, but it's key to be cautious no matter what time of year it is. Between the dangers of wild animals and the risk of drunk drivers, it's up to you to be careful of where you are, what you're doing and what's going on around you.
