Distracted driving is a major cause of car accidents in Florida

Distracted driving is a serious problem not only in Florida, but across the country. Many different factors could lead to distractions that could cause car accidents, such as use of cell phones, being too tired to drive or simply being in a negative mindset while driving. One of those issues may have been the cause of a recent collision that led to a man's death.

The collision occurred in the early morning hours of June 30. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the victim's car was traveling east while the other driver involved was traveling west. For unknown reasons, the vehicle belonging to the driver believed to have caused the crash crossed the center line into the victim's lane where the two cars collided. Both vehicles then caught fire.

Though details of the rescue were few, troopers reported that the victim died from the injuries he suffered. The driver of the other car and her passenger were also injured. Reports indicate that the driver suffered serious injuries, and her passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The accident remains under investigation, and it is currently unknown whether criminal charges will be filed.

The loss of the victim will no doubt lead to a difficult time for his family, emotionally and possibly financially. To help cope with this, they may consider filing a wrongful death claim against the driver believed to be at fault. If their claim successfully proves negligence on her part, they could be awarded monetary damages that could help pay for funeral costs and any other expenses related to the crash. A Florida personal injury attorney could provide more information about such claims to any families who have lost loved ones in car accidents caused by the negligence of another.
