Florida car accidents: woman killed in wrong-way collision

There are many reasons why a motor vehicle collision might occur. Unfortunately, one common factor in car accidents is drinking and driving. This is especially distressing, as it is one potential factor that could be avoided entirely. One Florida woman lost her life in a recent crash caused by a suspected drunk driver.

Reports indicate that the woman was a passenger in a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 95. A driver in a pickup truck began driving north in the southbound lanes. In doing so, his truck collided head-on with the victims' car. Police reported that the truck overturned, but the driver was able to exit the vehicle.

Although both victims were wearing their seat belts, they both suffered serious injuries. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but her passenger tragically died at the scene. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Police stated that the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending as they wait for the results of the truck driver's blood alcohol test.

When someone is injured in a crash, he or she may consider filing a personal injury claim against the driver believed to be responsible. Similarly, when a victim is killed in a collision, the family of the victim may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. When these types of claims successfully prove negligence on behalf of the responsible party, those who filed could receive monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and other monetary losses related to a crash. Anyone who has suffered injuries or lost loved ones in Florida car accidents could speak with an attorney to learn more.
