Florida auto accidents often deadly when alcohol is involved

Just about any roadway collision can cause injuries. Auto accidents caused by drinking and driving are often even more serious and can easily result in fatalities. Three Florida residents were recently killed in one such crash.

The driver believed to be responsible reportedly lost control of her vehicle, which led to a chain reaction of car crashes. The woman's car veered into the median, which caused another vehicle to cross over into oncoming traffic. That car then struck two other vehicles before catching fire.

In spite of the help provided by witnesses, the driver of the car forced into oncoming traffic died at the scene. Two passengers in that vehicle, an adult and a child, also tragically lost their lives. According to Florida police, the woman attempted to flee the scene. She was soon apprehended, however, and taken to the hospital to test her blood alcohol level. She is now facing several charges, including DUI and manslaughter.

In situations like this where someone is killed in a motor vehicle collision, the victim's surviving family may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the driver believed to be at fault. If the claim successfully proves negligence on behalf of that driver, the claimant could be awarded monetary damages that can be used to help pay for medical bills, funeral costs or any other related expenses. Any families who have lost loved ones in auto accidents could consult experienced Florida personal injury attorneys to receive assistance in filing such claims.
