Commercial vehicle accidents: Pile up ends in death and injuries

The state of Florida has had its fair share of recent tragedies. Hurricane Irma swept throughout the state with damaging and fatal winds. Days prior to the hurricane, a series of commercial vehicle accidents and personal vehicles resulted one fatality and multiple injuries.

The accidents involved 26 different vehicles in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95. Three of the vehicles in the pile up were commercial vehicles. Traffic was not moving due to a previous collision in the same lanes. Authorities believe that the pileup began when a tractor-trailer crashed into another vehicle and created a domino effect.

Sadly, the multi-vehicle collision resulted in one 18-year-old man's death. At least 13 others were injured, though their conditions are unknown.  The southbound lanes were closed for hours and traffic diverted on side roads as the accidents were investigated and cleared. The investigation is still pending.

Anytime commercial vehicle accidents occur, the risk to smaller vehicles increases because commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers tend to be comparatively heavier and larger than personal vehicles. With a complicated multi-vehicle accident such as this one, sorting out the aftermath and dealing with automobile insurance can be understandably overwhelming. Florida attorneys can examine the evidence collected in collisions and advise victims and families of deceased victims of their rights and options. Some victims and/or families of deceased victims may choose to file personal injury lawsuits or wrongful death lawsuits. Attorneys can also be a victim's advocate with the truck companies to strive for the best possible outcome for each victim's needs.
