Commercial vehicle accidents: Collison with semi ends in tragedy

Motor vehicle accidents occur in Florida on a daily basis and some involve large tractor-trailers. In the moments traveling near a tractor-trailer, it is often easy to understand how much commercial vehicle accidents can impact a smaller vehicle. Many collisions with the larger vehicles can result in significant property damage, serious injuries and/or death. Recently, a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a smaller sedan on Florida's turnpike ended tragically.

The accident investigation is still pending, but reportedly both vehicles involved in the collision were traveling southbound on Florida's turnpike. The 63-year-old male victim was traveling as a passenger in the sedan in the lane alongside the tractor-trailer. The sedan was being driven by a 58-year-old man, and the semi-truck's driver is reportedly 44 years old.

Apparently, the semi attempted to shift lanes into the path of the sedan and collided with the sedan. The sedan became wedged under the truck and both collided with a guardrail. The impact of the collision into the guardrail not only separated the two vehicles but also resulted in them both catching fire. Both the truck driver and the sedan driver were able to exit their vehicles, escaping the fire and suffering only minor injuries. The sedan's passenger was trapped, and he did not survive the collision.

Charges related to the accident are expected to be filed. Victims or family members of deceased victims of similar commercial vehicle accidents may suddenly find themselves with a lot of medical, end-of-life and financial decisions to make. The situation can be overwhelming, and some find it comforting to have a Florida personal injury attorney advise them through the process. Some cases may be eligible for legal action in civil court to attempt recovery of related financial losses.
